Connecting to Claude
Learn how to connect your professional profile MCP server to Claude for enhanced AI interactions.
Prerequisites
- A created and configured professional profile (see Getting Started Guide)
- Your MCP server URL from your dashboard
- Claude installed on your computer
Connection Steps
Step 1: Launch Claude
Open Claude on your computer. If you haven't installed it yet, download it from the official Claude website.
Step 2: Access Settings
Click on the settings icon (gear/cog) in the bottom left corner of the Claude interface to open the settings menu.
Step 3: Navigate to Connections
In the settings sidebar, select the "Connections" tab to access the connections settings.
Step 4: Add MCP Connection
Click on the "Add MCP Connection" button in the connections panel. This will open a dialog to enter your MCP server URL.
Step 5: Enter Your MCP Server URL and Select Transport Type
In the dialog that appears, paste your MCP server URL. This URL can be found on your dashboard after creating your profile.
Important: Make sure to select "SSE" as the transport type from the dropdown menu. Our MCP server requires SSE for proper connection, and the default transport type will not work correctly.
Note: Your MCP server URL should look something like:
https://profile.example.com/your-username/mcp
Step 6: Connect and Verify
Click "Connect" to establish the connection. Claude will verify the connection to your MCP server. Once connected, you'll see a confirmation message.
Testing the Connection
After connecting your profile, let's verify that Claude can access your professional information:
Start a New Chat
Create a new conversation in Claude.
Ask a Career-Related Question
Try one of these example prompts to test if Claude is using your professional context:
- What are my strongest skills based on my resume?
- Based on my work experience, what career paths might be good for me?
- Help me draft a cover letter for a Senior Developer role using my background.
Verify Response
Claude should respond with information specific to your profile. If it references your work history, skills, or other details from your profile, the connection is working correctly.
Tip: If Claude isn't using your profile information, try mentioning it explicitly in your prompt. For example: "Using my professional profile, can you suggest improvements to my resume?"
Using Your Professional Profile with Claude
After connecting your professional profile MCP server to Claude, it will have access to your professional background information. You can now ask Claude for:
- Resume feedback and optimization
- Cover letter creation based on your experience
- Interview preparation tailored to your background
- Career advice based on your skills and experience
- Personal branding suggestions

Troubleshooting
Connection Failed
If Claude fails to connect to your MCP server, check the following:
- Verify that your MCP server URL is correct
- Confirm you've selected "SSE" as the transport type
- Ensure your internet connection is stable
- Check if your server is online by visiting your dashboard
- Make sure your profile has been properly created and configured
Claude Cannot Access My Professional Background
If Claude doesn't seem to be accessing your professional information:
- Verify that the connection is active in Claude's settings
- Try disconnecting and reconnecting the MCP server
- Make sure your profile contains sufficient information about your professional background
- Try explicitly asking Claude to use your professional context in your prompt
